Mining Projects

Amitsoq Graphite, Greenland

On 27 February 2017 Alba announced that it has now completed the acquisition of a further 41 per cent interest in the Amitsoq graphite project in Southern Greenland (the “Project”), increasing its ownership of the project to 90 per cent. This follows the extensive exploration programme undertaken in 2016 encompassing a bulk sampling programme and airborne electromagnetic survey (details below).

The licence area comprises the historic Amitsoq graphite mine and is prospective not only for graphite but also for copper, gold, nickel and platinum group elements.

Thule Black Sands, Greenland

Alba has been granted two exclusive mineral exploration licences covering 290 km² of prospective coastline in the Thule province of north-west Greenland.

Black heavy mineral sands have been recorded in the region for many decades. The sands are enriched with ilmenite and/or magnetite.

Melville Bay Iron Ore, Greenland

Alba has been granted an exclusive exploration licence in the Thule region that consists of two sub-areas both prospective for iron ore.

The licence areas MEL 2017/41 covers 354 km² and contains an existing inferred JORC resource of 67 [email protected] 31.4% Fe.

Inglefield Land, Greenland

Alba has been granted a licence in the Inglefield Land area of north-west Greenland, prospective for mineralisation including copper, gold, cobalt and nickel.

An 82 km² licence area, the Ingelfield Project (MEL 2017/40) comprises three sub-areas which are located 95 km north to 200 km north-east of Qaanaaq.

Geological mapping and airborne geophysical surveys by The Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland ("GEUS"), and fieldwork by mineral exploration companies have identified a number of mineral showings in the Inglefield Mobile Belt. Commodities identified during these studies include gold, copper, molybdenum, nickel, zinc and cobalt.

For further information on this licence, please refer to the RNS dated 4 September 2017.

Mreiti Uranium, Mauritania

Since 2006 Alba has had a strategic investment in uranium exploration in West Africa by the way of a 50% interest in a private mineral exploration company, Mauritania Ventures Limited. The aim of this company has been to investigate the uranium potential of Mauritania, north-west Africa.

Alba is in the process of submitting a new application to the Mauritanian Authorities to take out a new permit over a reduced area within the original permit area, which includes the centre of the previously discovered and announced high-tenor uranium anomalies. Alba and its joint venture partner will consider their options with regards to funding the next stage of exploration.

Limerick Base Metals, Ireland

Alba owns one exploration licence (PL3824; 17.11 km²) within the highly prospective Limerick Basin (also known as the Pallas Syncline).  The licence is 100% owned by Alba, was recently renewed to 26 May 2018 and covers Base Metals, Barytes, Gold and Silver.

Oil and Gas

Horse Hill

The Horse Hill-1 well was spudded on 3rd September 2014 to test several conventional stacked oil and gas targets in the proven productive Portland Sandstone, Corallian Sandstone and Great Oolite Limestone levels in the well-defined Horse Hill prospect in the Weald Basin situated in Surrey, England.

The well was completed on 5 November 2014, reaching a total depth of 8,770 ft (2,673 metres), and encountering several hydrocarbon-bearing horizons. Having initially acquired a 5 per cent interest in the Project, following subsequent acquisitions Alba now has a 15% shareholding in Horse Hill Developments Limited ("HHDL").

HHDL is a special purpose company that owns a 65% participating interest and is the operator of the licence area, comprising Production and Exploration Development Licences (PEDL) 137 and 246 ("Horse Hill or the "Licence Area"). The remaining 35% participating interest in the Licence Area is held by Magellan Petroleum Corporation (NASDAQ: MPET). As such, Alba owns an effective economic interest of 9.75% in the Horse Hill Project.

Alba is earning a 5% interest in Production Licence 235 (“PL 235”), which comprises the producing onshore Brockham Oil Field, which is located just to the north-west of the Horse Hill licences.

The Brockham Oil Field is located on licence PL235 in the Weald Basin in Surrey, southern England. The field was discovered by BP in 1987 with the drilling of the Brockham-X1 well. The field was in production until early 2016, and had average daily production of approximately 35 bopd from the Brockham-X2Y production well.

In March 2017 Alba was advised by the Operator, Angus Energy plc (“Angus” or the “Operator”), that, following extensive analysis of the BR-X4Z sidetrack well, the Operator’s intention is to bring the Kimmeridge into production at the existing Brockham production facility as soon as the necessary OGA approval is in place.
