HEALTH AND SAFETY

 

The Company firmly believes that injuries and illness resulting from our operations are preventable and will work to improve the Safety and Health of all people working within our operations. This is achieved through;

  • Training people to be able to work at high performance standards, recognise potential hazards and risk, and understand how to deal with such hazards and risks.
  • Develop and maintain policies and systems that promote and deliver continuous improvement in Safety and Health performance;
  • Monitoring and regularly reviewing key risks in the areas of Safety and Health at all its operations and projects;
  • Review compliance with applicable laws, regulations and operational policies and standards relating to Safety and Health.
  • Recognise safety and Health as an ingredient of high performance production.

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT AND MONITORING

 

The Company is committed to responsible environmental management. It will ensure each operation and project develops systems and procedures to;

  • Complying with all applicable statutory and regulatory environmental obligations and Company Policies.
  • Train all people involved in our operations and project such that they are;
    • fully aware of our environmental obligations; and
    • understand the systems and procedures in place to achieve these obligations.
  • Continually monitoring our environmental performance to demonstrate compliance; and
  • Identify viable opportunities for improvement in our environmental performance.

BOARD AND MANAGEMENT

DAVID MCGOWAN
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

 

Mr McGowan joined the Company as General Manager - Engineering in February 2017 and was promoted to COO in June 2018. He is an experienced Mining Engineer with more than 36 years operational experience. Mr McGowan started as an underground miner in the early 1980s, before graduating as a Mining Engineer from the Western Australian School of Mines and progressing to become the Underground Division Manager for Eltin Pty Ltd. He has held senior operational management roles within a variety of mining companies and has extensive experience across a range of underground and open pit operations, including narrow vein gold mining.

ANDREW TEO
CHAIRMAN

 

Mr Teo is an accountant with 39 years of extensive and diversified experience in accounting, treasury, corporate, legal and business administration across several industries, including the mining industry. He was, until his retirement in March 2018, Chief Financial Officer/Executive Director of BGC (Australia) Pty Ltd., one of Australia’s largest privately owned companies, with annual turnover in excess of $2 billion and 7,000 plus staff (including sub-contractors). Mr Teo worked in BGC in excess of 35 years. Mr Teo remains a Non-Executive Director of BGC.

During the past three years, Mr Teo has not served as a Director of any other ASX listed entities. Mr Teo is a member of the Audit, Remuneration, Nomination and Safety, Health & Environment Committees.

RAUL VILLANUEVA
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

 

Attorney Raul Villanueva was appointed an Executive Director of Medusa on 24 January 2013 following his recent appointment as President of the Company’s Philippines operating company, Philsaga Mining Corporation (“Philsaga”) in December 2012. Attorney Villanueva who has been the Executive Vice President of Philsaga since November 2011 was appointed President of Philsaga.

Attorney Villanueva who has Bachelor degrees in Economics, Military Science & Tactics, and Law has been a member of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines and an Attorney and Counsellor-at-Law since 1994. He brings a focused approach to improving the operating systems and professionalism of the Company, based on his education and several years of experience in law as well as managing companies and will further align the objectives of the Medusa Group of Companies.

Mr Villanueva is Chairman of the Safety Health and Environment Committee and a member of the Nomination Committee.

ROY DANIEL
NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

 

Mr Daniel has had a long association with Medusa, and was the Chief Financial Officer of the Company from December 2004 until his retirement from office in June 2013. Mr Daniel was also an executive member of Medusa’s Board from April 2006 until June 2011, in his role of Finance Director.

Mr Daniel has been associated with the resource and mining industry for over 35 years and has held various senior management and accounting positions with overseas and Australian companies. His financial and corporate experience, as well as his association with the Company since its formative years will prove invaluable.

Mr Daniel is Chairperson of the Audit and Remuneration Committee and also serve as a member on both the Nomination and Safety Health and Environment Committees.

PETER ALPHONSO
CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER/COMPANY SECRETARY

 

Mr Alphonso has over 36 years of experience with the auditing, engineering and communications industries, with the majority of his experience centred on the gold and nickel sectors of the mining industry. Mr Alphonso’s experience has included associations with Coopers and Lybrand, Western Mining Corporation, Great Central Mines and Ti-west Joint Venture. As Company Secretary, Mr Peter Alphonso is responsible for the corporate secretarial functions of the Company, financial and statutory reporting of the Company as well as directing and monitoring of all financial aspects of the Company’s overseas operations.

JAMES LLORCA
GENERAL MANAGER GEOLOGY AND RESOURCES

 

Mr Llorca is a geologist with more than 30 years of practical experience in both technical and management roles in the exploration, mining, resource development and data processing industry. He has been a Director of Philsaga Mining Corporation since March 2018 and held the GM Geology and Resources role for Medusa since 2016. Mr Llorca leads Medusa’s exploration activities in the Philippines and is involved in the identification of new exploration opportunities in the Asia Pacific region. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology, a Master of Applied Science in Geospatial Information and is a member of the AusIMM and Australian Institute of Geoscientists.

PATRICK CHANG
CORPORATE DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

 

Mr Chang is responsible for the identification, assessment and execution of the Company’s business development opportunities, along with its investor relations function. Mr Chang has been involved in the mining industry and mining investment markets for more than a decade. This has included working as a mine production geologist in several gold and iron ore operations. Following this, he spent more than seven years tenure as a Mining Analyst at mid-tier broking firms Argonaut and Canaccord Genuity where he primarily focused on the coverage of ASX-listed gold companies and built a track record of successfully identifying early stage opportunities. Mr Chang holds a Master of Science Degree in Geology, a Master of Computer Science Degree and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. He is bilingual in English and Mandarin.
